"One art please."

Things are more positive now, it helps when you talk to the people who know things in university. Ended up talking to a whole bunch of 'em yesturday so now my application for next year has been changed from photography to Fine art (PVST or whatever it's called)

I did feel very creepy taking pictures of these people working, you walk around a bar with a camera, people look at you as if you've thrown a puppy into a volcano...

That, is art.

I was supposed to do this on Tuesday but instead we played Black Ops all day (I'm very bad at console fps, my reaction time is terrible give me a mouse any day), I made Nathan angry by deleting his pizza order instead of picking my own. Alan started to seem fed up with us so Jonny and I took off into the city to retrieve his bicycle, of course he decided to sit in my passenger seat wearing a creepy mask, as one does.

And it's only 2 weeks from today until I'm pretty much off. The weather today was beautiful.

3 weeks

This is me in my minecraft boat... April 6th and I have no more work to do! well apart from some essay.

Well then...

Today was a crumby day, my incredable lack of communication skills ment my photography was not good enough and unlike Magicka I can't just make everyone explode with my magicks...

So somehow at art college if my photographs do not have a meaning behind them, they are unacceptable, they must have meaning! They can't just look great and that be the end of it. but if it's a terrible picture of a rock and I say this is the rock I cut my knee on and I have the scar to prove it, well that's just the best ever.

Also apparently the internet is evil, I must gain all my knowledge from the library, which is almost impossible if I don't know exactly what I'm looking for in the first place. Where do I learnt that? THE INTERNET!

This is a large silver ball that has water flowing out of it, at night.
It has nothing to do with anything, I just felt I needed a picture.

So I have decided that if the degree course is like this and to my understanding it is, I shall not be there next year. I'm not going to spend that amount of money that I don't have anyway to do something I don't enjoy. So depending on how this lens based workshop is, this year may be the last of my academic career.

But who knows what the future holds.

A Fork in the Road.

So the past month was our discipline experience, for me, 2 weeks of photography and 2 weeks of painting.

Photography was 35mm colour film, I used this hunk of metal which my dad bought when he was 16.

For the first time since coming to university I felt like I was getting an education, I learnt things.
My project was basically to document my study, the room I spend most of my time in. I ended up with 50+ pictures to choose from (I needed 8-10)

I passed this. and John said he'd be "delighted to see me back for consolidation."

Then there was painting, something I enjoy and find to satisfy my creative needs, however these 2 weeks did not. we started with charcoal drawings then moved into black and white paintings.

Now we had two tutors, who both told me to do completely different things. one telling me to set up a still life and paint it... the other telling me to hang stuff from the ceiling and pile sand on it. so my work which I believe was supposed to seem somewhat linear, each painting drawing inspiration from the previous, was just a bunch of random pieces of a standard which could have been higher.

To demonstrate the difference between tutors:

                              Gerry

Paddy

So overall I didn't enjoy painting as much as I thought I would. Also I went home everyday with the most incredible neck pain.

Tomorrow I decide which of the two I will be doing for 6 week consolidation and then what degree course I will be doing for the next 3 years.

Stuck In Here

Not an incredably positive post.

So on Wednesday I picked my disciplines and those are Photography and Painting. It seems that my studies advisor wants me to do photography, is that where I though I'd end up? no, not at all. I in no way think I'm great at it but I guess it was one of my stronger areas of work.

So this is my work since september all nice and ready for the public to look at and whatnot:

It's sad but true, I could have done more and of a better standard, there's no reason why I didn't it's not like I have anything else to do instead. but that's the way it's always been with me, hopefully that'll change.

For the past 6 weeks pretty much I have sat in this room, in that time other than my family I have seen Matthew 3 times. I only see Alan in college, I havn't seen Chris since October, why? no reason at all. Jonny lives way out in the woods (There are no woods but I like to say that) and I've made no new friends this year. Something needs to happen, I'm stuck in my own little world, in which I'm generally pretty unhappy. Maybe when I get some work to do again, I'm out of the house 5 days a week, the weather gets better I'll start to enjoy myself.

Hopefully soon I'll reignite my true passion, film making. several thing holding my back on that at the moment, a lack of ideas, people willing to help out, editing software and memory cards. but soon...

Update

Stuff that has happened:

-3D Soft was garbage, it bored me, I was uninspired by the subject, I wasn't there half the time and I did no research at all. Despite this I passed, meaning I have passed every module so far, that's pretty nice.

-It snowed loads, which is nice for a day but then it's gotta stick around and make doing anything miserable.

-Off for Christmas vacation now which has so far been uneventful but, eh whata ya do, sit around and watch Married with Childred all day.

-Today after almost a month of sitting in the driveway being useless, with teh help of good sir Ian my car started once more now it's away getting all spruced up so I can have it back intime for it to snow again on Thursday.

Now I just have some artist nonsense and a sketchbook to finish by January.
